What a year.. I feel like most of it I missed.
Last time I visited my own site was January of 2018 – WHAT!
Why? Simple….This year was a growing year for me.
In 2016 I lost my father, CHF congestive heart failure complicated by diabetes. I remember when he was diagnosed diabetic – it was crazy in our house. Mom brought in different food, measured everything counted carbs…and dad cheated on cherry vanilla ice cream when mom wasn’t looking. So, she happily went back to steak and potato dinners, pizza and chicken nuggets.
And.. that exactly how he lived the rest of his life- adjusting insulin and sneaking what made him happy. Not a good way to manage disease.
In 2017 I lost my mom, Breast cancer metastasized to her lungs, liver, bones and brain. 12 long year battle that she rocked. But like my dad, she focused on what she could sneak when know one was looking. She was never good with nutrition, feeding her body well or adjusting to make a huge impact on her disease. But she stayed positive, she loved her family and she made an impact o the world… So eat what you will and enjoy those special moments.
I also lost my job in 2017 , a great opportunity as i was able to care for my mom every single day! I made her green smoothies that she hated and forced salad and high nutrient meals on her daily! But in the end..it was ice cream sundaes and chocolate cake that got us through the tough times. She found peace on 9.30.2018 -we celebrated her life with a wine toast and those who loved her standing by her side.
So, I learned that we are all individuals. What makes one feel full and complete is certainly not going to be the same for someone else.
I also learned that healthy eating, a healthy life style and health positive attitude can and will change many disease outcomes. Making healthier choices can and will provide your body with the energy to fight disease, build your immune system. A positive attitude makes you resistant to negative, lifts your spirit and your desire to accomplish anything!
So, 2018 began my journey to practice and preach to many about my journey. Stay tuned as we finish up 2018 and step into 2019 healthier and happier!
