Nothing like starting the holiday season off with bad vibes towards an old school song.. I get it!
Anyway lets talk gift giving..shall we?
I have never been a big spender, lavished gift were not my thing for myself or anyone else..OK call me cheap. I always wanted to give gifts that had an impact on the heart, and that did not leave a huge dent in my wallet!
Some people have no problem spending an exorbitant amount of money on someone else, in that case I’d love you to give them my address, email , phone pay-pal..I am flexible.
Whatever your thing is, always make your gift choice relevant to the person whom you are shopping for.
Why is this important, because you want that person to love the gift you purchase or made ( in my case) for them. Don’t buy a cat lover a t-shirt with ” I love dogs” on it!
Funny story..
My mom loved buying people gifts- always. Did she have the money ? NO, but that never stopped her.
Remember the Flintstones when Betty and Wilma would go shopping, what did they yell ” CHARGE IT” that was mom!
So, mom loved to buy for others exactly what she would have loved for herself. One Hanukkah, mom found the perfect gift for me.
Now let me tell you that I have dogs, but I am not a crazy dog lady. I eat cookies, but not often and I have no crap in my house ( sugary, baked goods like Twinkies.) I hate nick knack leave on the counter stuff. Just more to clean.
Night three we gathered around the table lite our candles as we taught the younger children the prayer then respectfully began handing gifts out. One gift per person, each night for 8 nights.
Mom excitably brought her gift over to me and stood as I opened the beautifully wrapped …
WHAT? Yes, Yes it was …a cookie jar that looked just like HER dog.
No kidding, can’t make this shit up! Now it may not be to funny to you, it may seem like such a great thought..if ya new me, you’d be laughing as well.
Mom, was in her glory, WHY? Cause she new she’d be going home with a cookie jar that she loved! AND SHE DID!
Anyway, the story and memory means the world to me. Every holiday we share the story again and again. When I make ( or purchase) a gift for someone, I take my preference out of the equation and try my best to get something meaningful to the gift receiver.. I have many fails, but maybe, just maybe the fail was really a success …my mom was no dummy!
Talk to you all soon!
